Chief Engineer - Morgan Library & Museum

The Morgan Library & Museum has an immediate opening for an experienced Chief Engineer who is responsible for overseeing the operations, maintenance and repairs of the Morgan’s physical plant and building system infrastructure. Supporting a 150,000 sf campus comprised of historical and modern structures, the Morgan’s systems include but are not limited to HVAC (Heating, Ventilating, and Air Conditioning) mechanical equipment, BMS (Building Management System) controls, electrical systems, plumbing systems, lighting systems and other related equipment. The position manages a staff of four.

High school diploma or GED.
Minimum of 10 years’ experience in building operations.
Possession of a valid New York Certificate of Fitness for:
(A-35) Certificate of Fitness to Operate and Maintain Air Compressors
(F-01) Certificate of Fitness for Citywide Fire Guard for Impairment
(S-12) Certificate of Fitness for Citywide Sprinkler Systems
(S-13) Certificate of Fitness for Citywide Standpipe Systems
(Q-01) Certificate of Qualification for Refrigerating System
(F89) Fire and Life Safety Director
Working knowledge of Siemens and other BMS controls.
Extensive knowledge of HVAC comfort and climate control systems;
knowledge of the special climate requirements of art storage and display a plus.
Extensive knowledge of centrifugal chillers, cooling towers, pumps, fans, motors and other related support equipment.
Working knowledge of VFDs (Variable Frequency Drives) and electrical systems.
Experience in the maintenance and operations of steam systems supplied by
Knowledge of a variety of lifts, including scissor lifts, boom lifts etc.
Ability to make and oversee repairs to building systems.
Ability to work with both hand and power tools in a safe and careful manner.
Ability to read and understand architectural & mechanical drawings/specifications.
Experience developing and managing preventative maintenance programs and excel spreadsheets; familiarity with CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System) a plus.
Ability to participate in the development and management of budgets.
Experience managing outside vendors, including procuring work and reviewing invoices.
Good understanding of the principles and practices of supervision, including assigning, evaluating, and modifying work.
Ability to effectively delegate responsibility and achieve results through subordinates and contract personnel.
Capacity to maintain positive and productive relationships with the Morgan’s management and staff.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office; comfortable with email communications.
Possession of a valid driver’s license.
Must be physically capable of lifting 50 lbs. or more, climbing on stairs, ladders and working in confined spaces.
Must have adequate hearing to facilitate working in machine equipment rooms.
