Communication Coordinator - University of Michigan Museum of Art
Position: The University of Michigan Museum of Art (UMMA) seeks a dynamic, highly motivated, and collaborative individual to join the Communication department. The Communication Coordinator will develop and implement an overall social media, website, and email communications strategy, as well as other online engagement opportunities.

The Communication Coordinator will be responsible for managing online promotional and communication efforts from content development to distribution. These efforts will be managed through interdepartmental collaboration as well as coordination with U-M platforms. This position requires a dynamic, self-starter and good-humored personality. The outcome of this work will be to increase visibility of the Museum of Art and its reputation among all constituents and secure audiences for Museum programs and events. S/he reports to the Director of Marketing and Communication.
Primary responsibilities include community management of four social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter). Works with UMMA’s Student Engagement Council (SEC) to generate ideas and collaborate on social media outreach. Proposes social media strategy and implement it. Provides and responds to analytics. Responsible for developing and producing marketing, advertising, and promotional materials across multiple platforms for implementing all social media communications. Edits and updates website content. Edits, layouts and disseminates UMMA email announcements including e-newsletters. Also creates flyers and signage as needed. Performs various administrative tasks as requested.
Additional duties include archiving projects including, photography, press clips, and other promotion of UMMA. Assists in postings for digital signage within the Museum.
The position supervises the work of student interns, social media contributors, and student graphic designers.
Must have two-three years’ experience working in the areas of social media posting and management, including photo and video editing for social media posts. Must have work experience writing and editing for the web and electronic media. Excellent written and verbal communications skills are required. Significant project management experience is necessary. Must have a flexible schedule including occasional evenings and weekends.
Required skills include: writing and editing, proof reading and attention to details. Must have knowledge of professional photography and photo editing. Experience using a mailing management software (ConstantContact) and a CMS (Drupal).
Additional qualifications should include the ability to organize and work both as a team and independently. Have an appreciation of art and museums, demonstrate curiosity, and enthusiasm. A working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite is a plus. Previous experience in a university setting is a plus.
