The Alliance of Artists Communities is an international nonprofit association, providing services to more than 400 organizational and individual members working in the field of artist residencies. Based in Providence, RI, the Alliance conducts research about artist residencies, hosts an annual conference and professional development convenings throughout the year, manages several grantmaking programs, offers a variety of consulting services, develops online and print informational tools about the field, and advocates on behalf of artist residencies and artists. Founded in 1991, the Alliance maintains a staff of 4-6 employees on-site and a national Board of Trustees.

CONTENT SPECIALIST
(full-time / 3-year position / $45,000 - $47,000)

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Content Specialist is part of the Alliance of Artists Communities leadership team and oversees the design, implementation and execution of the organization’s content management and learning strategies. This position manages the infrastructure that supports informed decision-making and continuous learning leading residencies and their staff to deliver on their work in the most effective manner. The Specialist sets up, manages and evaluates content and learning systems, and administers the platform for systematic capturing, managing, sharing, and discovery of information. The Content Specialist supports development of a comprehensive, targeted, highly useful content management base that enables staff throughout the residency field to access and exchange information.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversees the development, application and implementation of a content management strategy/framework/policies for the organization in partnership with the Executive Director

  • Develops results framework to monitor and evaluate effectiveness of content management system and self-assessment

  • Helps to foster field-wide exchange, so that know-how, information, and experience is shared

  • Manages the content on the organization’s knowledge and learning platforms

  • Develops the taxonomies of the organization’s content management system and learning repositories

  • Supports the design of the organization’s knowledge and learning platforms and functionalities

  • Supports the advocating, training, and mainstreaming of across the field; continuously scanning the field for information and content that is important

  • Captures the experiential knowledge of field leaders and experts to grow the content management system

  • Interviews stakeholders to extract experiences and lessons learned for further scaling up and sharing

  • Manages the logistics, set-up, design, and implementation of content capturing activities, including meetings, focus groups, and workshops

  • Designs and manages online capturing activities, including surveys, wikis, blogs, e-discussions, etc.

  • Edits content including language, formatting, and concepts

  • Develops trusted relationships with a variety of stakeholders within and outside the organization

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS + TRAITS

  • Degree in journalism, technical writing

  • 5 or more years experience in a professional environment, residency environment preferred

  • Excellent interview skills to ensure optimal documentation and extraction of content derived from personal experiences; stellar facility in capturing activities including interviews, observations, and group discussions

  • Ability to quickly develop a sound understanding of different typologies of the field and their distinguishing characteristics

  • Ability to assess situations quickly and make independent decisions regarding capturing and sharing of information and content

  • Demonstrated high-level ability to perform thoughtfully and effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative environment, exercise excellent judgment, and maintain collegiality and professionalism at all times

  • Writing and media production skills to process captured experiences in a way that they can be communicated or disseminated. This may include basic media and digital literacy skills

  • Ability to digest information and analyze, synthesize, and summarize it in clear and concise ways

  • Proficiency with IT tools for producing knowledge materials

COMPENSATION: Salary $45,000 - $47,000 / 40 hours weekly

BENEFITS: Full-time benefits include: paid holidays (including week between Christmas + New Years, and week off after conference), vacation + sick time, travel, $400 toward monthly health insurance, 401k + 3% matching after 1 year
