Custodian - Oregon Museum of Science and Industry
The Custodian provides custodial and support services for all OMSI facilities, activities, and events. Custodial staff serve to help ensure that OMSI provides a clean, safe, and healthy environment for all guests and staff. This position reports to the Custodial Operations Manager.
The Custodian participates in programs/initiatives to enhance corporate culture, such as:
Working effectively with and supporting volunteers throughout the organization
Supporting OMSI's Total Guest Experience (TGE)/Customer Service mission & objectives in daily job performance, including diversity initiatives
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Provide general custodial service as assigned or needed utilizing best practice for safety, efficiency, and environmental concerns.
Support the set up and teardown of OMSI events.
Clean and stock lavatories, including toilets and sinks, mirrors, walls and dispensers to ensure proper sanitary conditions and good appearance.
Empty and clean wastebaskets and dispose of waste.
Sweep, vacuum and mop floors, carpets and walkways. Extracts carpets as assigned.
Wash windows and glass throughout the facility to assure good appearance and visibility.
Clean assigned meeting rooms and offices according to established procedures.
Wash, vacuum, and dust furniture, drinking fountains, window sills, fixtures, baseboards, and the like.
Assist with room setups and moves furniture, equipment, etc. as needed.
Report needed museum wide repair work through work orders and communication to supervisor.
Collaborate with other departments such as OMSI's Maintenance, Events and IT.
Ensure proper care and safety in the operation and maintenance of equipment and communicate repair needs to Custodial Lead.
Stock and maintain supply closets and communicate inventory levels to Lead Custodian.
This position is non-exempt, paid hourly
This position is regular part-time, scheduled for 16 hours/week
Requires a 2-day work week, such as working 8 AM - 4:30 PM or a similar 8-hour shift, including weekends and holidays.
Flexibility in work schedule to accommodate events and activities.
Physical Demands: 5% Sitting 20% Standing 75% Lifting/Carrying/Pushing/Pulling 50 Pounds for long periods of time.
Must be able and comfortable to consistently physically lift/carry/push/pull for long periods of time.
Close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less), Distance vision (clear vision at 20 feet or more), Color vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors), Peripheral vision (ability to observe an area that can be seen up and down or to the left or right while eyes are fixed on a given point), Depth and perception (three dimensional vision, ability to judge distance and spatial relationships), Ability to adjust focus (ability to adjust the eyes to bring an object into sharp focus).
Work environment includes wet or humid conditions (non-weather), work near moving mechanical parts, work in high, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, outdoor weather conditions, vibration.
Noise level is moderate (examples: business office with computers and printers, light traffic) to loud (examples: metal manufacturing department, large earth-moving equipment).
Assume other tasks and responsibilities as assigned by the Custodial Operations Manager and Lead Custodian.
Knowledge of proper methods, techniques, materials, disinfectants, tools and equipment used in modern custodial work.

Education & Work Experience:
High School diploma or equivalent combination of experience and education.
Minimum 6 months of custodial / housekeeping experience.
Minimum 6 months of customer service experience.
Bilingual - Spanish/English.
Experience working with volunteers
