Custodian - Oregon Museum of Science and Industry
The Custodian position provides custodial and support services for all OMSI facilities, activities, and events. Custodial staff serves to help ensure that OMSI provides a clean, safe, and healthy environment for all guests and staff. This position reports to the Custodial Operations Manager.
Participate in programs/initiatives to enhance corporate culture, such as:
Working effectively with and supporting volunteers throughout the organization
Supporting OMSI's Total Guest Experience (TGE)/Customer Service mission & objectives in daily job performance, including diversity initiatives
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Provide general custodial service as assigned or needed utilizing best practice for safety, efficiency, and environmental concerns.
Provide support services for events and activities.
Provide timely and successful response to guest and staff requests.
Properly maintain equipment and supply closets and provide supervisor with necessary information regarding repair and inventory levels.
Project a positive and helpful demeanor to all of our guests and OMSI staff.
This position is non-exempt, paid hourly
This position is regular full-time, scheduled for 40 hours/week.
May need to be flexible in work schedule to accommodate events and activities.
Regularly scheduled shifts may include evenings and weekends.
Physical Demands: % Sitting 20% Standing 80% Lifting/Carrying/Pushing/Pulling 30 Pounds
Vision requirements require distance vision (clear vision at 20 feet or more), depth and perception (three dimensional vision, ability to judge distance and spatial relationships), and ability to adjust focus (ability to adjust the eyes to bring an object into sharp focus).
Work environment includes outdoor weather conditions, vibration.
Noise level is moderate (examples: business office with computers and printers, light traffic).
Perform security duties as needed or assigned.
Assume other tasks and responsibilities as assigned by the Custodial Operations Manager or Sr. Director of Facilities Operations.
Ability to safely and effectively operate and maintain all custodial equipment.
Working knowledge of custodial equipment, practices, procedures, and supplies.
Ability to multi-task and perform successfully in a dynamic environment.
Ability to effectively communicate over portable radio.
Ability to follow basic instructions.
Good customer service skills.
Strong communication skills, both written and oral.
Good organizational skills.
Understanding of confidentiality and protocol.
Education & Work Experience:
High School diploma or equivalent combination of experience and education.
Minimum of one year experience in custodial or related field.
Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of experience and education.
Bilingual - Spanish/English.
Experience working with volunteers.
