Digital Photographer - Brooklyn Botanic Garden

Brooklyn Botanic Garden (BBG) is a treasured natural space and vital botanical resource, esteemed for its education, horticulture, and community programs. Photographs and video convey the Garden’s story to online audiences and are essential to a variety of print materials and exhibits. 

BBG seeks a photographer to help document collections and events, tell the Garden’s stories, support visitor engagement, maintain digital image archives, and assist with special projects. Job responsibilities are roughly one-third photography, one-third video, and one-third asset management, and the successful candidate will demonstrate strong aptitude and experience in all three areas. This position runs approximately four months.

Primary Responsibilities:

Document the Garden’s horticultural collections and select events with photography and video.

Produce creative and engaging video content and photography assets in order to share mission-based stories with online audiences and foster engagement.

Using institutional resources, accurately identify and label plant images and upload photographs to the Garden’s website.

Maintain digital image and video assets, including fulfilling requests from colleagues and archiving assets from other staff.

Oversee department’s photography and video equipment.

Perform other related duties or special projects as directed.

Qualifications:

Confident self-starter able to work both independently and collaboratively

Proficiency with high-quality digital photography techniques, shooting and editing video, and recording and editing professional-quality sound

Excellent eye and demonstrated sense for visual storytelling including subject matter, composition, and pacing

Fluency with Adobe software suite including Photoshop and Adobe Premiere Pro

Agile, detail-oriented approach to projects; ability to meet deadlines

Command of English language and ability to follow house style

Preferred:

Familiarity with garden plants and botanical nomenclature

Understanding of digital file organization and metadata best practices; experience with archiving systems and DAMS

Ability to cover weekend and/or evening events on occasion
