Background and History
The Jackie Robinson Foundation (JRF) is a public, not-for-profit national organization founded by Rachel Robinson in 1973 as a vehicle to perpetuate the memory of Jackie Robinson and his achievements. Serving as an advocate for young people with the greatest need, the Foundation assists increasing numbers of minority youths through the granting of four-year scholarships for higher education.
The Jackie Robinson Foundation provides much more than financial support. While each Jackie Robinson Foundation Scholar receives up to $7,500 a year in direct support, they also become an active member in the Foundation’s unique Mentoring and Leadership Development Program, which is an extensive mentoring program that includes attendance at workshops, assignment of a peer and a professional mentor and placement into summer internships and permanent employment.
The Jackie Robinson Foundation has an operating budget of over $8.6 million and is governed by a twenty-three-member Board of Directors. Its full-time staff numbers eighteen. A minimum of seven years’ experience in a communications management position

Develop and implement a dynamic communication and marketing strategies using traditional print, broadcast, cable and contemporary online approaches.
Works with the JRF staff, to effectively shape and communicate JRF’s many messages in a well–timed and strategic manner.
Establishes protocols so that all communications and marketing materials for the organization have a consistent voice and message.
Strategically develop and maintain a communications and marketing schedule.
Identifies and successfully utilizes and implements new multi-faceted media strategies.
Oversees the development of best messaging and communications and/or marketing tactics to effectively increase the organization's visibility and impact.
Conducts regular analysis of trends that impact the Foundation. This includes building and mining the available information in a database.
With consultants, regularly update JRF’s online media via its website and social media pages.
Write and distribute regular e-blasts to JRF’s constituents.
Education and Experience Required (an equivalent amount of training, education and experience will be considered)
Candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in communications, business, marketing or a related field.
Seven to ten years of previous experience managing the communications function of a small to medium sized organization to include planning and execution of communications programs, goal setting and planning
Experience managing communications and marketing in a foundation or not-for-profit is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities, including competencies that may be representative but not all inclusive of those commonly associated with this position.

Superior expertise in researching, writing and/or editing written materials (e.g. speeches, presentations, press materials, talking points.)
Ability to develop, negotiate, manage and execute a variety of media appearances, events and conference presentations etc.
Salary will be within a range appropriate for an organization of this size. The benefits package includes comprehensive health insurance, including dental and a vacation and personal days off allowance.
