Human Resources Generalist - Brooklyn Botanic Garden
Reporting to the Director of Human Resources, the Human Resources generalist provides the Human Resources department with support in the following functions: recruitment, onboarding, training, benefits administration and other administrative duties as assigned.
Manage the life-cycle recruitment process for Brooklyn Botanic Garden (BBG); collaborate with managers and communicate with candidates throughout the process.
Serve as primary administrator of Brooklyn Botanic Garden’s Applicant Tracking System (Jobvite); post positions, provide technical assistance to managers and support other system needs.
Assist the director of Human Resources with training managers and staff on BBG’s recruitment process and best practices.
Facilitate the onboarding process for all new-hires (full-time and part-time); communicate hiring requirements to new employees and managers, run background checks, conduct new-hire sessions for full-time and part-time staff and provide support to managers throughout the process.
Facilitate the sexual harassment training process through Traliant, BBG’s online platform and ensure institution wide compliance.
Offboard employees; conduct exit interviews, communicate termination information to appropriate parties, administer COBRA.
Administer various employee and retiree benefits programs, such as group health, flexible spending accounts, dental, prescription, and vision programs, life insurance, long-term disability and transit accounts.
Reconcile monthly benefit billings and assist with year-end audit reconciliations.
Provide employment verifications upon request.
Serve as the backup for the payroll process.
Perform other related duties or special projects as directed.
High school diploma or GED
One to two years’ HR experience
Willingness and ability to handle highly sensitive and confidential information
Ability to multitask and handle competing priorities
Strong written and oral communication skills
Strong Excel skills and experience with ADP
Bachelor’s degree in human resources or related field
Experience working with labor unions
Experience in recruitment and onboarding
Experience working in a non-profit a plus
