Manager of Collection and Exhibition Programs - The Cleveland Museum of Art
The manager of exhibition and collections programs is responsible for developing and executing a dynamic range of programs for adult audiences in order to increase engagement with the permanent collection and special exhibitions. This position promotes the museum’s role as a unique educational and cultural resource both locally and nationally. As a creative and strategic thinker and problem solver with a knowledge of art history and related fields, this position conceives, implements, and oversees activities ranging from gallery talks, lectures and panel discussions to innovative formats to bring works of art to life.
Master’s Degree in Arts, Art History, Education or related field and 3-5 years of professional museum experience in the areas of education or public programs or an equivalent education and experience. Knowledge of public humanities, arts and culture a priority.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Ability to maintain comprehensive departmental budgets, able to understand and appropriately forecast both expenses and revenue, and a proven ability to work within a budget given dynamic operating conditions
Demonstrate experience in developing a variety of learning experiences for adult audiences.
Excellent oral, written, interpersonal, and communication skills
Ability to assess priorities, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and work well under pressure, excellent time management, problem solving and analytic skills.
Evidence of strong collaboration skills, both with internal and external collaborators, including ability to function as a convener to develop ideas and make decisions together.
Duties and Responsibilities
Develop, execute and evaluate a year-round calendar of exhibitions and collection based events, activities, and initiatives.
Produce a portfolio of programs for adult audiences including lectures, panel discussions, gallery talks, close looking sessions, endowed lecture series, as well as emerging and innovative formats.
Consider the museum’s target audiences and strategic initiatives in program development.
Work in collaboration with colleagues (interpretation, curatorial, community programs, exhibitions, communications, visitor experience) to research, develop and assess programming to engage diverse adult audiences in deeper exploration of the collection and special exhibitions.
Work alongside interpretation colleagues to craft learning goals for special exhibitions and collection areas; utilize learning goals to develop strategies and priorities for programming
Organize and oversee all aspects of exhibition and collections-based program planning, administration, and implementation, including onsite event management.
Actively participate in related internal committees and working groups.
Ensure all speaker arrangements and facility logistics for the success of the program.
Develop and manage budgets for adult programs relating to museum’s exhibitions and collection.
