Seeking an experienced and effective retail store manager to oversee and conduct Museum Shop operations at Grounds For Sculpture. The ideal candidate will: possess sharp business acumen, extraordinary customer service, and a high degree of professionalism; have impeccable judgement, drive, and an outstanding track record of curating and merchandising a highly desirable inventory; lead by example, cultivating and motivating a polished, knowledgeable, and empowered sales team; and have the dedication and drive to work in a nonprofit organization which combines art and beckoning spaces to welcome, surprise and engage all visitors in the artist’s act of invention.

The Museum Shop Manager reports directly to the Director of Marketing Communications.  The position is responsible for managing the Museum Shop and associated staff and requires work on many weekends and some holidays. The Manager will oversee and conduct all Museum Shop functions including: long-range planning and day to day operations; sales and inventory management and loss prevention strategy; cash and payroll management including scheduling; creating a culture of exemplary customer service; actively participating in  creation of stable sales and profit margins including forecasting, tracking, and analytics; buying and visual merchandising of stock; creating custom product; attending trade and gift shows; positively representing GFS both on and off campus.

Duties and Responsibilities

Responsible for overall look and feel of store, including attractive visual merchandising, plentiful array of mission-related merchandise, and general upkeep. Acquisition of new and/or custom merchandise and replenishment of best sellers while being mindful of margins, markup, shipping/freight fees, cost to customer.Personnel responsibilities including hiring, scheduling, training, employee reviews, corrective action, timeclock approvalImplements strategies to ensure sales staff is continually providing customer service excellence, driving sales, and realizing profitMonthly sales reporting through POS system (Altru) including trends and forecastsAccounting—including orders, shipments/inventory received, invoice processing, consignment agreements, monthly consignment payoutsInventory management and control, including staying current with loss prevention tacticsMarketing and promotion of Museum Shop, coordinated with Marketing DepartmentOrganizing special events for Museum Shop including trunk shows, book signings, artisan demosSales, Customer Service (including shipping orders as necessary), inventory product knowledgeAssisting customers as needed, including shipping phone orders, recovery, and customer service.Performs all other duties as assigned 

Requirements

2-4 years of management and related retail experienceProven experience with accurately handling cash and register dutiesFinancial acumen with expertise in planning and strategySuccessful track record of wholesale buying and strong visual display and merchandising skillsExcellent customer service skills with a strong public relations appeal; ability to proactively intercept, engage, and effectively communicate about product to customers in a positive, welcoming and outgoing mannerStrong organizational, verbal, and written communication skillsMust be able to effectively train and oversee others, leading by exampleProficiency in MS Office and POS systems; working knowledge of Altru, Shopify, and timeclock management software preferredMotivated, ambitious, and responsible self-starterCaring, conscientious, and compassionate leaderAbility to work flexible hours including nights, weekends, mornings, and holidays to support store operationsAbility to travel to trade and gift shows and conferences as requiredAbility to lift up to 20lbs
