Platform Facilitator - Museum of Modern Art

Beginning September, 2019 Forrest Solutions is seeking creative individuals to work onsite at The Department of Education at The Museum of Modern Art. The ideal candidate will have a commitment to inclusion, equity, and diversity as they act as facilitators for the Platform, a new experimental learning space for all visitors ages 10 and up located at the center of the Museum. At the Platform, visitors can explore the art and ideas of our time through art-making experiences, workshops and conversations. Facilitators will be a first point of contact to welcome visitors and support their engagement with self-guided activities, resources, artist installations, scheduled workshops, and other programming during open hours. Responsibilities include:

● Welcome visitors to the Platform with a general introduction to the annual theme and what’s available to them through program offerings in the space

● Personalize and deepen visitors’ engagement with activities and resources, valuing their ideas and experiences

● Provide support for a regular program of workshops and conversations organized by MoMA Education staff

● Enrich and extend visitors’ experiences at MoMA and with the collection, providing information about the Museum’s programs and exhibitions

● Maintain the Platform space, ensuring that the environment and materials remain tidy, easy to access, and attractive

● Set up and close the Platform each day

● Attend regular trainings and professional development sessions

● Contribute to improving and evaluating the Platform program through collecting data and attendance numbers, filling out daily logs and interviewing visitors. Deliver feedback to Education staff through regular meetings

● This role requires directly interacting with the public for several hours at a time in a highly trafficked space at the center of the Museum


● Experience with and commitment to the value of art education and participatory experiences in museums

● Ability to synthesize complex ideas and concepts for a general audience

● Sensitivity to the needs and experiences of a range of museum visitors of diverse ages, languages, races, cultural backgrounds, and abilities ● Experience directly engaging the public, preferably through teaching

● Passion for modern and contemporary art, preferably with direct experience of artistic materials and processes

● A demonstrated interest in and commitment to inclusion, equity, and diversity

● B.A. in art history, art/museum education, studio art, architecture, or design suggested but not required

● Fluency in a second language is highly desirable #LI-DNI
