Program Manager - Recess

Recess seeks an experienced, dedicated individual to manage the ongoing artist programs of the organization. The Program Manager is a key asset to Recess, managing programs including: Session, Analog, Critical Writing, and the artist component of our Assembly Program.

The Program Manager’s responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Programs

• Work with artists and staff to plan, budget, facilitate, and manage all artist and writer programs

• Maintain communication with artists to ensure that projects are realized to their potential

• Draft and edit written program material

• Facilitate all program events

• Perform outreach to artists and audiences

• Plan and research future projects

• Oversee and develop program evaluations and audience engagement to measure program impact

• Oversee logistics of exhibition production

• Administer annual open call for applications

External

• Represent Recess offsite at events and in working groups

• Research and nurture external partnerships

• Develop new contacts and opportunities

• Bring school groups and local partners to Recess programs

Fundraising and Communications

• Work closely with the Executive Director, Development Manager, and Communications Coordinator to review program-specific grants and communications collateral

• Support staff on fundraising initiatives and events

Art inventory and sales

• Assist in production of commissioned artworks

• Prepare and collect sales agreements and maintain inventory

Daily Operations

• Along with the rest of the staff, maintain a clean space stocked with necessary supplies

• Serve as liaison to Recess Building Manager, facilitating physical improvements to the space

• Interface between artists, staff, visiting groups, Assembly youth and public

• Manage Office Assistant and intern responsibilities and projects

• Monitor and respond to general email, phone, and walk-in inquiries Requirements:

• At least 3 years arts administration and/or non-profit experience;

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills;

• Flexibility and strong ability to work independently;

• Passion for the arts and innovative program development;

• Ability to manage a busy space while completing tasks;

• Computer and online literacy and strong skills in Microsoft Office, Google Suite

• Demonstrated ability to work well with artists, arts groups, and key stakeholders (e.g. Board members, donors, community leaders, etc.);

• Familiarity with New York City arts community a plus;

Reports to Executive Director

Schedule: Full time; Tuesday through Saturday and occasional evenings and/or weekends as related to events and programs
