The Senior Exhibit Graphic Designer is the primary advocate for the environmental/interpretive and on-screen graphics for interactive experiences developed by OMSI to include the quality of 2D graphics of all products, exhibit graphics throughout the museum, management of Graphic Design budgets and subcontractors.
Participate in programs/initiatives to enhance corporate culture, such as:
Working effectively with and supporting volunteers throughout the organization
Supporting OMSI's Total Guest Experience (TGE)/Customer Service mission & objectives in daily job performance, including diversity initiatives
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Lead the design development of all graphic elements on assigned projects to include instructional, environmental, illustrative, photographic and digital graphics.
Develop, submit, and present proposal packages in support of the design development process.
Development, management and oversight of budgets and timelines as they relate to 2D design and project development processes.
Development and maintenance of graphic design standards for exhibits, graphic experiences, educational props, and lab activities to enhance the visitor experience at OMSI.
Development and implementation of new design workflows and processes akin to lean manufacturing to increase productivity and efficiency.
Support development of proposals for funding as they relate to Graphic Design and project development processes.
Establish, develop, and manage vendor relationships and contracts related to graphic design, layout, production and printing.
Model and promote positive communication and collaboration within Creative Service, cross-departmental and cross organizational teams.
Collaborate with researchers and project teams on various projects; this may occasionally require leading brainstorm sessions.
Supervises Interns and Volunteers as assigned.
Development, management, and curation of the OMSI 2d design materials and processes library.
Sourcing of 2D material and 2D production process samples
This position is exempt, paid salaried
This position is regular full-time, scheduled for 40 hours/week.

Work environment includes work near moving mechanical parts, fumes, or airborne particles.
Noise level ranges from quiet (examples: library, private office) to very loud (examples: jack hammer work, front row at rock concert).
Fulfill Project Lead responsibilities as assigned by the Experience Design Manager and / or Creative Director;
Travel to client sites in support of development, remediation, installation and/or de-installation of various OMSI's exhibits programs;
Assume other tasks and responsibilities as assigned by the Experience Design Manager.
Strong color, typographic, layout and user-centered design skills and an excellent attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy.
High level proficiency in design software, specifically Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign.
Illustration and sketching proficiency
Professional communication and presentation skills, both written and oral.
Demonstrated skills in teamwork and collaboration with colleagues, with varied skills and responsibilities meeting individual, departmental and organizational deadlines.
Excellent organizational, analytical, strategic planning and problem-solving skills.
Ability to effectively manage and track multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize, work well under pressure with a high degree of accuracy, anticipating problems before they arise, and meet stringent and overlapping deadlines.
Ability to work under pressure and explore new design challenges.
Demonstrated knowledge of product development.
Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Strong customer service skills.
Understanding of confidentiality and protocol.
Interactive design and development experience.
Education & Work Experience:
Bachelor's Degree in Graphic Design, Industrial Design, Architecture or equivalent combination of experience and education.
Minimum 2 year of coordination and project management skills.
Minimum 2 year of supervisory experience
1 year of experience working with the public, formal and informal settings.
4 years of product development
Minimum 3 years of informal experience in informal science education and/or the museum field
Bilingual - Spanish/English.
Experience working with volunteers.
